Apple Inc. is moving the production of its new Mac Pro computer from the United States to China, Wall Street Journal mentioned familiar people with this decision.
The transfer took place at a time when President Donald Trump's government raised $ 25 million in tariffs on China's products by 25% and threatened to tax additional $ 300,000 million in Asian country's goods.
American technology giant has tied up with Quanta Computer Inc. to make a computer, which will cost $ 6,000, and production increases in the factory near Shanghai.
"Like all our products, the new MacPro has been designed and built in California and contains components from many countries including the United States," an Apple spokeswoman said. "The final assembly is a part of the production process."
Last week, Apple asked its main suppliers to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of moving from China to 15% -30% of South East Asia's production capacity, as it is ready to restructure its supply chain. Nikki Asian review.
China is a major market for Apple, as well as a large production center for its devices. In the quarter ended March, 18% of the company's total revenues came from China.
Shares of the company fell by 1.17% to $ 197.45 in 1413 GMT.
