Vitamin D: Supplemental testing fails
As days are shorter and darker, many people use vitamin D supplements to compensate for the lack of sunlight. The body actually produces vitamin D, but only using the sun.
Co-testa magazine has examined 21 preparations that are sold in pharmacies or drugstores. Five of them are medicines and 16 are nutritional supplements. The result shows that the medicines are useful – they were tested in grades "good" to "very good". Of the supplemental elements, ten received only "adequate" grades.
The testers have come to the conclusion that Vitamin D should be taken only in the form of medicines, but only consult a doctor.
The human body produces and stores vitamin D.
Suppliers can be completely dispersed from their point of view. A healthy person produces vitamin D in the body and stores it in the body, so that there is enough available in the dark season too. There is no risk of deficiency. Vitamin D is added to prevent only newborns to stop.
Among healthy adults, vitamin D has no preventive effect. In contrast, vitamin D itself is taken, calcium metabolism and damage to bone health and can damage the kidneys.
So some "co-test" warns that it contains significantly more than maximum maximum 20 grams. This was the case for AB products and tetesept.
So conclusion: If there is no medical requirement, give fingers of vitamin D supplements. In the best way they are useless and in the worst case is harmful.
Why does a person need vitamin D?
One thing is certain: True vitamin D deficiency is really harmful to health. But that is not the case with most people in Germany.
Professor Helmette Schatz of the Board of Germany Society for Endocrinology (DJE) explains that Vitamin D is an important hormone anterior. It is especially important for healthy bones, but it also affects muscles function. Unlike other vitamins, humans absorb only a small part of vitamin D by their diet – for example, on the fatty fish fish. Using 80% to 90% of sunlight, the body forms in the form of a body.
Now Germany is not just Sunbeth. Therefore, more and more people obviously believe that they suffer from vitamin D deficiency. Single pharmacies sold vitamin D supplements for € 177 million in 2017. This company was calculated by the IQWI, which oversees the pharmaceutical market.
When do you talk about lack of vitamin D?
Bermitte Niemann of the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BFR) explains that when people have symptoms and so when they are sick we are talking about lack only. For example, iodine has a widespread lack of symptoms. Since the 1980s, the use of iodine-fortified salt has been widely recommended in Germany. "It's not a case of vitamin D," Nikman insists. "We share the view that Germany has a vitamin D deficiency in Germany, certainly not."
BFR is not just interested in whether there is any lack of population – the organization also wants to know how much care people care about. "And there is still room for many vitamins," says Niemann. Vitamin D is one of them.
Which values are low?
According to the Robert Koch Institute, half of adults in Germany do not reach the best serum concentration of 50 nanomolas (NMOL / L) or 20 nanograms per mille (ng / ml) per liter. Are they all in short supply? "No," says Niemann. "But it may be that they are at risk of being under-spirited."
Because the concentration of the serum is less than the best value, the risk of underwater is always constant. However, the values are very low until the doctors talk about deficiency – medium to severe deficiency and 10 ng / ml for 10 ng / ml Schatz says, both are relatively rare.
High risk patients of Vitamin D are at a higher risk, as well as some others: people who are not home or who are only straying, people 65 years old, and people with dark skin. Scooz says that these groups are considered prophylactic doses of vitamin D.
What is vitamin D deficiency for your health?
But Underspool is not something you want. But, what does it mean in concrete words? "This is one of the problems of the problem," says Shazz. "We do not know." In numerous studies, scientists have tried to find that people with vitamin D levels die before, if they are likely to develop cancer or have a heart attack.
Some studies also found a link between respiratory and cerebral diseases or vitamin D concentration in diabetes and blood. "But here's the question: Now the risk of vitamin D level is increasing now, for example, rheumatism, or the other way: Does the disease affect the vitamin D level?"
So you can increase the value of vitamin D without pills
If you really want to know if you have enough supplies or not, then Stefing Wiretest will give you a blood test about your family doctor. If the examiner does not see any reason, then the patient has to pay about 20 euros. Check is not a part of the general check-up.
And whoever thinks he can not finish it without food supplements, like tablets can swallow at their own expense, says Shto. Doses of 800 to 1000 international units (IE) do not harm at least the body. More than 4000 IAs without medical reasons For themselves, but for example kidney suffers.
And then vitamin D: is the natural way of filling the sun. Those who want to contribute to their body's best supply should go every day before the door. Nayman says, "You do not have to spend half a day in the sun." "25 minutes a day." About one-third of the body parts should be exposed to the sun.
"As a rule of thumb we call it: half-time in sunlight," shorts add. You do not have to worry about getting very little vitamin D in winter skin. "People who spend a short period of time in the summer regularly fill their warehouses so well that they can pass through the winter." It is also good to walk in the winter too. Because the sky is covered, vitamin D is still formed in the skin.
