Comedian Tom Sainsbury officially competes officially against legendary politicians like Phil Goff and John Tamirhir for Clander Mayoralty.

Although Tom's name is at the bottom of the list of 21 mayoral hopefuls, he says his alter ego is going to become Fiona's mayor of Auckland.

Sainsbury's has thousands of followers for his social media videos, where he uses the Snapchat Face Swap filter to capture the persona of politicians and other characters.

In a video posted Saturday, after appearing in the official list of mayoral candidates in Landland this morning, he appeared as "Fiona" and told fans she had "made a big mistake."

"To celebrate the passing of dry July, August 1st, I decided to get drunk on various bubbles," Fiona said.

"What happened was, I was talking to some girlfriends and decided to run for mayor of Landland.

"It seemed like a very good idea at the time."

Sainsbury's could not be reached for comment on Saturday, but they are likely to speak to the media this weekend.

His satirical eras of politicians like Paula Bennett in the past have attracted national attention.

His videos were also picked up by Bennett himself, who copied Ersong with his "Betties", Amy Adams, Nikki Kai and Maggie Barry.
