German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas shared his vision of the issue of peace-keeping in Europe. According to the head of the German Foreign Ministry, a revision of the armaments control system and the disarmament process is needed – words are quoted in the Der Spiegel publication.
Maas said that Germany, along with its allies, supports the maintenance of the contract for the abolition of medium and short range missiles (DDRSM), despite the United States' position. The minister called this treaty one of the greatest achievements in the area of decommissioning.
"If we want to preserve peace in Europe, we need to revise the armaments control policy," said the German Foreign Minister.
Heiko Maas argues that international security must be based on four points, including the exchange of data between Russia, the US and Europe, full monitoring of missile information, increased pressure on arms control in China, and ultimately common "mutual mistrust".
In addition, the minister noted that new technologies could be "deadly to the world" and should therefore be controlled while maintaining the previously agreed agreements. Preventing the Global Arms Contest Heiko Meuse called one of the priorities of the German government.
Earlier in Berlin, they said they "warmly welcome" the planned meeting of Russian and United States presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Paris on November 11. As deputy of the German Government, Ulrike Demmer, the representative of the German government, noted that the possibility of dialogue between the parties on the preservation of the INF committee is "very valuable".
Let's remember, Donald Trump announced plans for the United States to withdraw the INF contract on the alleged breach of the 1988 agreement by the Russian side. However, Washington has still not provided evidence that the Russian Federation violated the terms of the contract. Moscow urges the US government to abandon drastic steps and continue the dialogue on the preservation of INF.
US Ambassador to Russia, Anatoly Antonov, noted that the US did not receive a formal notification of the withdrawal of the INF contract according to the procedure.
"The United States has not yet notified us of the intention to withdraw this treaty in accordance with the provisions of the INF Treaty," Antonov said.
The US-Russia withdrawal from the INF Treaty was discussed by the Russia-NATO Council in October-October. According to Gazeta.ru, NATO Secretary-General acknowledged that preserving the treaty is "key to Euro-Atlantic security".
According to a number of experts, Trump is dumbfounded by the actions because he wants to support European politicians, but in Europe, the world seems to appreciate the world without any doubt meeting overseas partners.
